《硝煙神影》 (Divine Shadow in Gunpowder Smoke)
Gold Award
Taiwan culture This documentary series captures a breathtaking moment during the pilgrimage of the Taiwan Taichung Dazhuang Hao Tian Temple (台中大庄浩天宮) in Taichung. The subjects are the imposing guardian generals of the Goddess Mazu: Qianliyan (Thousand-Mile Eye) and Shunfeng'er (Wind-Accompanying Ear). As the procession advances, they are greeted by a "Pao Zan (炮贊)"—a massive, ritualistic bombardment of firecrackers. In these frames, the generals are not merely statues; they appear to come alive, stoically emerging from a chaotic sea of crimson smoke and explosive sparks. The deafening roar of the firecrackers symbolizes the fervor of the devotees, while the generals' unwavering gaze through the haze represents their divine power and protection over the people. This is a visual dialogue between human faith and divine presence, shrouded in the smoke of tradition.
