Cruel Beauty

Silver Award

Jeju Island has many meanings. The historical event that occurred on April 3, 1948, left deep scars on the residents, which are embedded in Jeju. This nature symbolizes the history of Jeju Island and the sorrow of its people and is an object of mourning.
When we capture some of this nature through photographs, we can visually express the weight and emotions that nature holds. The blood and tears of the Jeju people who have deeply permeated nature remain as traces. Through this one photograph, we can have the opportunity to remember Jeju Island's painful past and share its sorrow.
Nature is not simply a part of nature, but a medium that conveys Jeju Island's sad story. Beauty is not something visual but comes from understanding the emotions and stories contained within it. Nature can be considered a part of nature, but we feel deep sorrow.
In this way, it becomes a medium that conveys the desire to remember Jeju Island's sorrow and share its pain. Amid cruel beauty, we must not forget the past and live together feeling its pain.
